Learning different movements in different body positions allows them to build upon small victories that can ultimately enable them to improve their abilities. Special needs children must go through an educational process where they consciously recognize and consider what they are doing and how they are doing it. Eventually, the child learns to take personal responsibility, focus their attention, solve problems, and act properly under varying circumstances.
Beata Matko is Independent Steps’ Lead Conductor. She was trained at the Andras Peto Institute in Budapest, Hungary and has over 20 years of experience working with children using the Conductive Education paradigm. She has worked with literally hundreds of children of all ages having a variety of physical and cognitive conditions all over the world. Although her practice is generalized, Ms. Matko is specialized in the rehabilitation of individuals having the cerebral palsy variants of ataxia, deplegia, quadriplegia, hemiplegia, or athetosis as well as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke.
